This attractive phalaenopsis sumatrana was grown on a hollowed-out coconut shell. I liked how it attached itself sideways onto the husk which to me, is a more natural growing position for many phalaenopsis species instead being placed upright into a pot.
It must have liked its coconut, showing its approval through three spikes with many beautifully striped, star-shaped flowers each.
Phalaenopsis sumatrana is endemic to Sumatra and Malaysia and prefers all-year warm to hot, humid growing conditions. Get one if you must, but please keep it happy.
